As a result of the philosophical arguments on searching the nature of music, many perspectives and doctrines emerged. 'Musical Formalism', which was founded by Eduard Hanslick's ideas, is one of them. In this paper, musical formalism will be explained and the formalist views of two important scholars, Eduard Hanslick and Peter Kivy, will be scrutinized. Examining the conservative formalism of Hanslick and the moderate formalism of Kivy is believed to create a more profound ground for discussing musical formalism and to provide inspiration for future researchers.

Müziğin doğasını daha iyi anlamak amacıyla oluşturulan felsefi tartışmalar sonucu, birçok yeni bakış açısı ve doktrin ortaya çıkmıştır. Temelleri Eduard Hanslick tarafından atılmış olan 'Müzikal Biçimcilik' öğretisi de bunlardan bir tanesidir. Bu makalede, 'Müzikal Biçimcilik' görüşü ana hatlarıyla açıklanacak ve bu öğretinin iki önemli temsilcisi Eduard Hanslick ve Peter Kivy'nin hem ortak hem de farklı yanlar taşıyan biçimcilik görüşleri ifade edilecektir. Daha muhafazakar bir biçimci görüşe sahip Hanslick ile ılımlı bir biçimciliği benimseyen Kivy'nin fikirlerinin irdelenmesinin biçimcilik görüşüne dair daha derin bir düşünme ortamı hazırlayacağı ve yeni düşünceler için ilham vereceği umulmaktadır.
