The aim of this study was to investigate the direct and indirect role of self esteem and procrastination in the relation between fear of failure and self worth. The participants were 279 students who study different major fields at the Faculty of Education in PamukkaleUniversity. Age range varied from 19 to 34. In this study, Tuckman Procrastination Inventory, Rosenberg Self Esteem Inventory, Activate and Success Based Self Worth Scale, Concern over Mistakes Scale and Personal Information Sheet were used to gather data. Results showed that procrastination had partial mediating effect in relation to fear of failure; performance based self worth, and self worth vulnerability. In other words, the effect of fear of failure on the performance based self worth and self worth vulnerability was decreased when procrastination was added the equation. The results also showed that self esteem had partial mediating role in relation to fear of failure procrastination, fear of failure- performance based self worth, and self worth vulnerability. In other words, the effect of fear of failure on the procrastination, performance based self worth, and self worth vulnerability was reduced, when self esteem was added the equation. Finally, results showed that self esteem had full mediating role in the relation to procrastination; performance based self worth, and self worth vulnerability. Implications of these findings are discussed and suggestions are presented within the context of literature.

Bu çalışmanın amacı, başarısızlık korkusu–benlik değeri ilişkisinde benlik saygısı ve erteleme eğiliminin doğrudan ve dolaylı rollerini incelemektir. Araştırmaya Pamukkale Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi’nde farklı bölümlerde öğrenim gören yaşları 19 ile 34 arasında değişen, 213’sı kız ve 66’ si erkek olmak üzere 279 öğrenci katılmıştır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak Tuckman Erteleme Eğilimi Ölçeği, Rosenberg Benlik Saygısı Ölçeği, Kırılgan Benlik Değeri Ölçeği, Aktivite ve Başarı Temelli Benlik Değeri Ölçeği, Hata Yapma Endişesi Ölçeği ve Kişisel Bilgi Formu kullanılmıştır. Analiz sonuçları, erteleme eğiliminin başarısızlık korkusu-performansa dayalı benlik değeri ve kırılgan benlik değeri ilişkisinde aracılık rolünü üstlendiğini göstermektedir. Bir diğer ifadeyle, başarısızlık korkusunun performansa dayalı benlik değeri üzerindeki etkisi, araya erteleme eğilimi girdiğinde azalmaktadır. Bulgular ayrıca, benliksaygısının da, başarısızlık korkusu-erteleme eğilimi, başarısızlık korkusu-performansa dayalı benlik değeri ve kırılgan benlik değeri ilişkisine aracılık ettiğini göstermiştir. Başarısızlık korkusunun erteleme eğilimi, performansa dayalı benlik değeri ve kırılgan benlik değeri üzerindeki etkisi, araya benlik saygısı girdiğinde azalmaktadır. Son olarak bulgular, benlik saygısının erteleme eğilimi-kırılganlık benlik değeri ve erteleme eğilimi-performansa dayalı benlik değeri ilişkisinde tam aracılık rolü üstlendiğini göstermektedir. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgular, alan yazınıyla ilişkisi içinde tartışılmış ve bazı önerilerde bulunulmuştur.
