Bauman in his book "Modernity and the Holocaust", launched an impressive and sustained critique of bureaucratic rationality. In this paper I outline the main frame of Bauman's bureaucratic rationality, although it seems similar Weberian standpoint, Bauman's conclusions about the moral vacuity of bureaucratic rationality are quite different from Weber's standpoint.

Zygmunt Bauman "bürokratik rasyonel ite" olgusuna oldukça şiddetli eleştiriler getirmiştir. Bauman rasyonalite eleştirisinde Max Weber'in çalışmalarından oldukça geniş ölçüde yararlanmıştır. Weber ile rasyonalite yaklaşımında hatırı sayılır benzeşmeler olsa da, bürokrasinin ahlaki eksiklikleri konusunda çarpıcı farklılıklar ortaya koymaktadır. Bauman'ın Weber'den ayrılması, modern toplumun bürokratikleşmesinde rasyonalitenin önemli etik sorunlara yol açmasını vurgulamasıyla başlar. Bu çalışmada Bauman'ın bürokratik rasyonaliteye etik yaklaşımı incelenmektedir. Bauman'ın bürokratik rasyonellik eleştirisinin temel yapısı şekillendirildikten sonra, Weberyen bakış açısına benzer görünen bürokratik rasyonalitenin ahlaki eksikliğine dair yaklaşımlarının Weber'den önemli farklılıklar gösterdiği açıklanmaktadır.
