Abstract (2. Language):
Oral submucosal is a distressing condition in which due to restricted mouth opening the patient is neither able to consume normal diet nor maintain proper oral hygiene. We evaluated the results of surgical release of fibrosis bands along with bilateral coronoidectomy and coverage of surgical defect with combined use of locoregionally present buccal pad of fat posteriorly and alloplastic collagen sheeth anteriorly in 21 histologically proven cases of oral submucosal fibrosis. The mean preoperative mouth opening was 10.24 mm. The mean postoperative mouth opening recorded at the end of 2 years was 29.05 mm which is 18.81 mm of overall increase in mouth opening achieved. Thus, this technique can be effectively employed on large number of patients for relieving trismus. The avoidance of secondary scar and donor site are its beneficial aspects.
