Following the collapse of Soviet Union, the Central Asian countries have started to search for regional unions and integrations in order to fill the economic gap in the region. This study discusses the customs union created by Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus with the goal of filling such a gap and provides Kyrgyzstan which is considering applying for the membership to the union, with an evaluation of the union. Potential drawbacks of such a membership along with the advantages are provided as a basis for comparison.

Sovyetler Birliği’nin dağılmasının ardından Orta Asya bölgesinde oluşan ekonomik boşluğun doldurulmasına yönelik ekonomik işbirliği ve entegrasyonu girişimlerinden biri olan ve Rusya, Kazakistan ve Belarus’un oluşturdukları gümrük birliği ve bu birliğin halihazırda dışında bulunmakla birlikte birliğe katılma konusunda değerlendirmelerin yapıldığı Kırgızistan için böyle bir üyeliğin potansiyel getirileri ile birlikte muhtemel olumsuzluklarını da ele alan bu çalışma Kırgızistan için karşılaştırmalı bir makale olarak hazırlanmıştır.
