Foreign objects are rarely seen in root canals and usually a variety of objects are broken and lodged in root canals by the patients themselves accidentally. Such foreign objects may become a focus of infection and cause pain. This case report presented a 23-yr old patient, referred for endodontic treatment of his right maxillary first molar tooth and a foreign object was detected in the middle thirds of the palatal root canal. The object was successfully removed from the canal and confirmed to be the head of a sewing needle. Foreign objects in root canals are rarely seen however leaving these objects in root canals may jeopardize the success of the treatment. These objects must be removed.

Kök kanallarında yabancı cisim bulunması nadiren karşılaşılan bir durumdur ve genellikle hasta tarafından kullanılan çeşitli objeler kök kanalında kırılır ve kalır. Yabancı cisimler ve kırık aletler enfeksiyon odağı oluşturur ve ağrıya sebep olurlar. Bu olgu sunumunda, 23 yaşında bir erkek hasta sağ üst 1. büyük azı dişinin kanal tedavisi amacıyla 19 Mayıs Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi Diş Hastalıkları ve Tedavisi kliniğine başvurmuştur. Yapılan radyolojik muayenede palatinal kanalın orta üçlüsünde halka şeklinde radyoopak bir cisim olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca palatinal kanalın kök ucu etrafında geniş bir radyolüsensi olduğu belirlenmiştir. Kanaldaki yabancı cisim başarılı bir şekilde çıkarıldıktan sonra bu cismin kırık bir iğne tepesi olduğu belirlenmiştir. Kök kanallarındaki yabancı cisimler eğer kanalda bırakılırlarsa dişin prognozunu etkileyeceklerinden çıkarılmalı ancak çıkarılamıyorsa yanından geçilerek (by-pass) tedavi tamamlanmalıdır.
