Abstract (2. Language):
Beginning in the twelfth century, Gothic painting, sculpture, and
architecture quickly became dominant in Europe and remained popular until the
Renaissance. The essential character of the Gothic period, particularly at the outset,
was the predominance of architecture; all the other arts were determined by it. Gothic
style was the dominant structural and aesthetic mode in Europe. Subject to regional and
temporal variations, Gothic art shaped human perception in Europe for nearly four
centuries. During the Renaissance, writers criticized it as vulgar and hence named it
Gothic art. As a result of this diffusion of artistic currents, a new pictorial synthesis
emerged, known as the International Gothic style that created modern art in 21st
century. The aim of this research is to bring up the characteristic of Gothic Art, to
explain its some special values and to debate effects in today’s arts.

On ikinci yüzyılın başlarında, Avrupa’da Gotik resim, heykel ve gotik mimari
baskın hale geldi ve Rönesans’a kadar popülerliğini korudu. Gotik dönemin esas
karakteri, özellikle başlangıçta, mimarinin baskın olmasıydı; bu durum diğer sanatların
hepsini sınırlandırmıştı. Gotik stil Avrupa’nın baskın olarak yapısal ve estetik tarzıydı.
Gotik sanatı son dört yüzyıldır Avrupa’da dini ve dünyevi değişikliklerle ilgili olarak
insanın estetik algısını değiştirmiştir. Rönesans döneminde, yazarlar bu stili acımasızca
eleştirdi ve bu nedenle onu bayağı ve sıradan anlamında gotik olarak adlandırdılar. Bu
sanatsal akımın yayılmasının sonucu olarak, uluslararası gotik olarak bilinen ve yirmi
birinci yüzyılda modern sanatın doğmasını sağlayan yeni bir görsel sentez doğdu. Bu
araştırmanın amacı; Gotik sanatının özelliklerini ortaya koymak, bu sanatın bazı özgün
değerlerini açıklamak ve günümüz sanatına etkilerini tartışmaktır.
