Abstract (2. Language):
In Turkey and many other countries, both the quality of and participation to education are not at the desired levels. Particularly, there are major problems in student participation in mathematics classes and in the achievement in this course. These problems vary according to gender. In our country, the representation of females in education and in the fields related to mathematics is fairly low in relation males. In this study, the representation proportions of females and males in education were researched and the literature related to gender differences in mathematics was revised. Gender differences in mathematics are discussed in the light of literature. Finally, suggestions were provided for preventing or decreasing gender differences in mathematics teaching.
