Metatheory which can be described as a systematic study conceming the main structure of the sociological theory has been on the agenda since mid 1980's and attracted widespread attention. Meta theory can well be evaluated within the context of meta studyand in this respect it involves carrying out studies conceming sociological theory. Thus metatheory has an indirect relationship with the analysis of the social world.This study aims to draw a general framework conceming this specific approach and the related disscusions on the issue.

Sosyolojik teorinin temel yapısına ilişkin sistematik çalışma olarak tanımlanabilecek meta-teori, 1980'li yıllardan itibaren gündeme gelmiş ve hayli ilgi uyandırmıştır. "Meta- Çalışma"nın kapsamında değerlendirilebilecek meta-teori, genelolarak sosyolojik teoriye ilişkin çalışmalar yapmak anlamını taşımaktadır. Bu çerçevede meta-teorinin sosyal dünyanın incelenmesiyle doğrudan değil, dolaylı bir ilgisi vardır. Bu çalışmada, meta- teorik yaklaşıma ilişkin genel bir çerçeve ortaya konulmakta ve yaklaşımla ilgili temel tartışmalara kısaca yer verilmektedir.
