When the Straight-Wire Appliance that has been developed by Lawrence Andrews was introduced to the profession in 1970 İt seemed advisable for transanal purposes, to explain the Straight-Wire appliance with reference to its closest kin, and so it was sometimes catted " a sophisticated Edge wise appliance. Actually, although it employs an ed ge wise slat, the straight wire appliance tits no existing appliance category because of certain innovations İn concept, ul imputation and in ejfecsts or results.

Lawrence Andrews tarafından geliştirilmiş olan "DÜZTEL TEKNİĞİ" 1970 yılında tanıtıldığında, tekniğin açıklanabilmesi için en yakın teknik olan Edge-Wise Tekniği (Köşeli Tel Tekniği) kullanıldığı için, bu yeni tekniğin Köşeli Tel Tekniğinin bir modifikasyonu olduğu düşünülmüştü. Bu teknikte de köşeli slot kullanılmasına karşın, temeldeki yenilikleri, düzenlenmesi, etkileri Ve sonuçlan bakımından mevcut hiçbir sabit aparey sınıflanması içine girmemektedir.
