Abstract (2. Language):
Soft denture liners reduce the height of peak stress as a function of masticatory force and distribute stresses more evenly to the supporting structures that would diminish the pain. The purpose of this study was to determine how a soft denture liner affects the masticatory performance and efficiency of complete dentures. The sample comprised 10 women (ages 52-69) with mandibular hard-based complete dentures (control) which were subsequently lined with Molloplast-B resilient liner for comparison. Masticatory performance and efficiency were measured by dividing the volume of chewed peanuts passing through standard sieves by the total test food (3 g). Masticatory performance data (mean±Sd in ratios) for hard base were: 53.13 ± 11.49, for soft-base were: 61.42 ± 6.01. Masticatory efficiency data (mean±Sd in ratios) for hard-base dentures were: 65.97 ± 11.25, for soft-base were: 73.21 ± 5.00. The data were analyzed by Wilcoxon rank test (p<0.05). Masticatory performance and efficiency were significantly different between Molloplast-B-lined dentures compared to control. It was concluded from this study that soft denture liners can improve the masticatory performance and efficiency of denture wearers.
