Abstract (2. Language):
In malign neoplasms, oral cancer is one of the important causes of mortality and morbidity. About 4% of all malignant tumors in men appear in the neck and oral cavity. 90% of oral cancers are squamous cell carcinomas and 95% of these patients are over 40 years old. Over the last few years, little improvement has been made to improve the survival rate of the patients with oral cancer. Although early detection is the fundamental factor for improving the survival rate, most malignant oral tumors are not detected until they are in advaced stages. Dentists play a crucial role in the early detection and prevention of oral cancers. They should conduct an oral cancer screening at each patient visit and pay special attention to patients who are at high risk. Clinical and histopathological features of two squamous cell carcinoma cases were presented and the role of dentists in early detection of oral carcinomas was discussed in this report.
