Abstract (2. Language):
Mountain regions make up about one-fourth of the Earth's land surface and about one tenth of humankind lives in mountainous regions. Necessity of providing life, property security of inhabitants and more touristic contribution in winter season makes protective function of forests more important for performing against snow avalanches. Due to the current situation in many European countries, clearcutting has been prohibited since more than one century. The characteristics of snow cover underneath forest canopy, avalanche-forest relations and avalanche-forestry activity interactions were explained and discussed in this study.
