The aim of this study is to state if it is possible to determine objective and measurable criterions between the biological structure of the brain and defense mechanisms. By this way, it was investigated if EEG is useful and sufficient method to determine defence mechanisms. In the study, using test subjects who has not any mental illness is a must. First, SCID-1 was applied on 40 subjects and 8 of them had been eliminated. So, the rest of the group is the normal population. The group of 32 was informed about the study and they signed the "Informed Concent" proving they accepted this voluntarily. Then, SME, was applied which is to be used to objectively measure defence mechanisms and that had been adapted to Turkish, reliability and validity processes had been done. After these, EEG records of the subjects had been acquired. Following this, the correlation between SME and EEG results was calculated. As a result, it's been stated that there is a statistically meaningful relationship only between "projection" mechanism and EEG parameters. There is not a sufficient electrophysiological finding about other defence mechanisms.

Bu araştırmada amaç, beynin biyolojik yapısı İle savunma mekanizmaları arasında herhangi bir bağlantının objektif ve ölçülebilir kıstaslarla saptanıp saptanamayacağımn belirlenmesidir. EEG'nin savunma mekanizmalarını tespit etmek için yeterli ve yardımcı bir metot olup olmadığı araştırılmıştır. Söz konusu araştırmayı yürütebilmek için, herhangi bir psikiyatrik rahatsızlığı olmayan deneklere ihtiyaç duyulmuştur. Bunun belirlenebilmesi için 40 deneğe SCID-J (Structured Clinical Interview for DSM) uygulanmış ve bu şekilde 8 kişinin denmesiyle kalan 32 kişilik grup, normal populasyonu oluşturmuş ve çalışmaya bu grupla devam edilmiştir. Gruba, öncelikle yapılacak çalışmalar hakkında gerekli bilgi verilmiş, çalışmaya kendi istekleri ile katıldıklarının bir göstergesi olan "Bilgilendirilmiş Rıza" (Informed Consent) belgesi imzaiatılmıştır. Ardından, Savunma Mekanizmalarını objektif olarak tespit edebilmek amacıyla yapılandırılmış, Türkçe'ye uyarlanmış, güvenilirlik ve geçerlilik çalışmaları tamamlanmış olan Savunma Mekanizmaları Envanteri (SME) uygulanmıştır. Sonrasında, deneklerin EEG kayıtları alınmıştır. Bu çalışmaları takiben, Savunma Mekan izm al arı Envanteri (SME) sonuçları ile EEG kayıtları sonuçları arasındaki korelasyon hesaplanmıştır. Yapılan işlemler sonucunda, EEG parametreleri ile yalnızca "yansıtma" mekanizması arasında istatistiksel açıdan anlamlı bir ilişki olduğu belirlenmiş, diğer savunma mekanizmaları hakkında bu anlamda yeterli elektrofizyolojik bulgu elde edilememiştir.
