Abstract (2. Language):
This paper aims to discuss the reception and the changing role of the reader in
literature-reality relations. As in any branch of arts, in literature, too, there is the strive of
man to overcome and go beyond the restraining perception of reality. Likewise, writing
functions as a means to open up new horizons in front of man, enhance their aesthetic sense
and, above all, to present the world from different perspectives. These are what feed the
creativity of the artist.
We are already aware of the fact that any given work of art does not have a single and
fixed meaning. The idea that the ‘classic’ works of the conventional traditions that mimic the
reality are out of fashion, or, just the opposite, that the modern and post-modern literature is
beyond our understanding and disconnected from reality can mislead the reader. Any work of
literature, no matter if it mimics the reality, nor it alienates or deconstructs it, is a fiction of
reality, and the primary aim of the reader should be to discover the multi-dimensional and polysemous structure of it. What is important in reception is that the receptor (reader) is able
to take the perceptive and mental effort in understanding the different ways of expression of
the fictitious texts, instead of preferring one type of text to another. It goes without saying that
the attitude of the literary critic as a receptor to the literary texts is important in this respect.
