HALKIN KORUMA OLGUSUNA TEPKİ VE/VEYA KATKISININ BELİRLENMESİ KONUSUNDA KÜLTÜR BAKANLIĞI DENEYİMİ: YENİ FOÇA DA ANKET ÇALIŞMASI VE SONUÇLARI

The paper relates some of the outcoraes of a questionaire work carried out at. Yeni Foça, İzmir. The interviews' aim to supply data on the historic part of the town to be employed in the master plan studies made by İller Bankası. In the paper particular emphasis is laid upon the outcomes as they relate to the people's attitude towards the historic value of the env ironment. < İt is found out that the people in this developing town have no motivation for the preservation of the environment and the restoration of their historic houses. A probable reason for this can be seen in the fact that a majör part of the residents are immigrants from»Balkans who are settled in Greek houses. Though they admit the superior quality (architecturally and structurally) of the Greek houses, they stili display a contempt for them. Stili another outcome is the people's distrust in the realizability of restoration -credit to be given by the government, They believe that in a country where even agricultural credits are hard to obtain, such, long-raüge low interest credits f or the restoration of theır houses can hardly be realized. Thus, the preservedl historic character of the town comes not frpm the people's attitude but from the facts that tourism is-a new process, master.plan is not completed yet, ahd construction materials/workers are hard to find.
