Geleneksel olarak eski Yunan ve Roma mimarlıklarının kural, biçim ve düzgülerine dayandırılan kurumsallaşmış mimarlık kuram ve uygulamalarının başlangıcı 15. yüzyıla, Rönesans'a tarihlenir. Kurumsallaşmış mimarlığın d ı ş l a d ı ğ ı y ö r e s e l mimarlık kuşkusuz çok daha e s k i . Bu y a z ı d a , kurumsallaşmış mimarlık k a v r a m l a r ı ve değer y a r g ı l a r ı d ı ş ı n d a b ı r a k ı l m ı ş y ö r e s e l mimarlık ç e ş i t li a ç ı l a r d a n i n c e l e n i y o r . Yöresel mimarlık, kurumsallaşmış mimarlık ve m i m a r l ı k t a y ö r e s e l c i l i k (vernacularism) k o n u l a r ı b i r bakıma y e n i d e n y o r u m l a n ı y o r , y ö r e s e l mimarlık ü r ü n l e r i n i n e ğ i t s e l , e k i n s e l ve akçasal d e ğ e r l e ri i r d e l e n i y o r .
