In this study, primary trainee teacher attitude to mathematics has been studied in England and Turkey . First, the importance of attitude in teacher education is stated and then the trainee teachers' attitudes have been assessed by using a Likert type questionnaire and a semi-structured interview. The main finding is that the teacher training courses have an important role in forming trainee teachers' attitudes to mathematics. It is also stated that each country students' attitudes differs significantly.

Bu çalışmada, ilköğretim Türkiye ve İngiltere’de öğrenim gören son dönem sınıf öğretmeni adaylarının matematiğe karşı olan tutumları incelenmiştir. Çalışmada, önce öğretmen eğitiminde tutumun öneminden bahsedilmiş, sonra aday öğretmenlerin sahip olduğu tutumlar Likert tipinde geliştirilen bir ölçek ve yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme ile tespit edilmiş ve konu karşılaştırmalı olarak ele alınmıştır. Temel bulgu, öğretmen eğitimi kurslarının aday öğretmenlerin tutumları üzerinde büyük bir etkisinin olduğu tespitinin yanında iki ülke öğrencilerinin de bir çok bakımdan farklı görüşlere sahip olduğudur.
