Abstract (2. Language):
The objective of this study is to investigate the den-toalveolar effects of the banded fan- type RME appli¬ance. The material of the study consists of lateral and posteroanterior radiographs of 20 subjects with narrowness in their upper front area, 13 female and 7 male, before and after the treatment. Student's t test was applied between the pre- and post-treatment dif¬ferences in order to determine the gender difference between males and females. To evaluate the changes caused by the treatment, paired t test was done between the data before and after the treatment. According to these results, the forward movement of the maxilla was statistically significant (0.05). Mandibular downward rotation was found to be statis¬tically significant at 0.05 levels, however backward movement was not. The model analyses show that there was a mean increase of 1.85 mm in the distance between upper molars, of 3.71 mm in the distance between canines and of 7.44 mm the distance between upper premolars. These results showed that fan type RME appliance could be used to correct the narrow¬ness in the frontal area of maxilla.
