Abstract (2. Language):
ABSTRACT Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the bonding ability of current two total etch and three self etch bonding systems on caries-affected dentin Methods: 150 freshly extracted mandibular and maxillary molars were selected of which 75 were caries affected teeth and the remaining were noncarious teeth. By grinding both the sound (n= 75) and caries-affected (n= 75) occlusal surfaces of teeth, flat dentin surfaces were obtained. Two total-etching bonding systems (XP Bond and OptiBond Solo Plus) , three self-etching bonding systems (Clearfil SE Bond, AdheSE Bond and Adper SE Plus) and a single composite resin (n=15) were used for restoration of prepared teeth,. Specimens were mounted in acrylic blocks and composite resins on bonded dentin surfaces with five different bonding systems were applied with plastic rings. The specimens were stored at 37°C in distilled water for 24 hours. After that, the specimens were applied shear bond strength test. The fracture analyzes of samples were evaluated using light microscope. The results obtained were analyzed using One Way ANOVA, Tukey Pos-Hoc tests and independent t-tests. Results: The results showed that it was found statistically significant difference between bond strengths of Clearfil SE Bond and OptiBond Solo Plus on sound and caries affected dentin (p<0.05). However, there were not statistically significant differences between the bond strength values of other bonding systems on sound and caries affected dentin (XP Bond, AdheSE Bond, Adper SE Plus) (p>0.05). For XP Bond-Total-etch and Clearfil SE Bond-Self-etch, the bond strength to caries affected dentin was higher than OptiBond Solo Plus, AdheSE Bond, Adper SE Plus adhesives (p<0.05). The lowest bond strength both to sound and caries affected dentin was obtained with AdheSE Bond. Conclusions: All tested adhesive systems produced the relatively different bond strengths to sound and caries affected dentin. XP Bond and Clearfil SE Bond showed the highest bond strength to caries affected dentin. According to these results, adhesion to caries affected dentin should be improved.
