Abstract (2. Language):
BigBlueButton is an online, free and open source conference environment which can operate on Windows,
Linux, Unix and MaxOSX platforms. BigBlueButton has many similar features available in Adobe Connect, which
is one of the most used distance learning platforms. Screen share, sound share, lessons through documents
(pdf, ppt, doc), board application, private and public conversation, raising hand, lesson recording, watching
recorded lessons are among the many features that BigBlueButton has. This research studies how the
management takes place on condition that student, teacher and classroom numbers are exceedingly high upon
the installation of BigBlueButton and the performance of distance learning were examined in terms of system’s
operation effectiveness. In studying system operation performance, data derived from distance learning
lectures from 800 students in 10 different sections throughout 14 weeks in 2014-2015 academic year in
Süleyman Demirel University, Education Faculty was used. A number of various solution suggestions were
made in terms of BigBlueButton’s management and performance when student, teacher and classroom
numbers are exceedingly high. This study’s data and solutions suggestions are thought to be useful for lecturers
who plan to utilize distance learning.

BigBlueButton Windows, Linüx, Unix ve MacOSX platformlarında çalışabilen ücretsiz açık kaynak kodlu,
geliştirilebilir online konferans ortamıdır. Günümüzde en çok kullanılan uzaktan eğitim platformu olan Adobo
Connect üzerindeki birçok özellik BigBlueButtonda da mevcuttur. Kamera paylaşımı, ses paylaşımı, dökümanlar
(pdf, ppt, doc) üzerinden ders anlatımı, tahta uygulaması, özel ve genel sohbet penceresi, el kaldırma, ders
kaydetme, kayıtlı dersleri izleme vb. birçok özelliği bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışmada BigBlueButtonun
kurulumundan sonraki aşamalarda öğrenci, öğretmen ve sınıf sayısının fazla olduğu durumlarda yönetiminin
nasıl yapılabileceği incelenmiş ve ayrıca uzaktan eğitim dersleri sistemin çalışma performansı açısından da
değerlendirilmiştir. Sistemin çalışma performansı incelemesinde Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi Eğitim
Fakültesinin 2014-2015 yılları arasında Uzaktan Eğitim yoluyla 14 hafta boyunca 10 şubede toplam 800
öğrenciyle yapmış olduğu derslerin verileri kullanmıştır. Öğrenci, öğretmen ve sınıf sayısının fazla olduğu
durumlarda BigBlueButtonun yönetimi ve performansı açısından çeşitli çözüm önerileri sunulmuştur.
Çalışmadaki verilerin ve çözüm önerilerinin BigBlueButtonu uzaktan eğitimde kullanmak isteyen eğitimciler için
faydalı olacağı düşünülmektedir.
