One of the most important aims for science education is to promote scientific literacy which is “magic concept” in curriculum efforts and reform all over the world. For that reason, the purpose of this study was to compare beliefs of 11th grade students from different high schools on the nature of science. The Perspectives of Scientific Epistemology questionnaire was utilized to assess students’ understanding of nature of science. Although all schools are significant differences to pass university entrance examination, the results revealed that among the three school types did not show any significant differences i n students’ views on nature of science. The results show that students hold positivist views on the producing of scientific knowledge, creative and imaginations, scientific opinions, and the effects of socio-cultural on scientist.

Bilim ve teknolojide aktif ve bilinçli karar verebilen, günlük yaşantıları ile ilgili problemlere yaklaşımlarında bilimsel düşünebilen bireyleri tanımlayan “bilimsel okur-yazar” kavramı fen eğitim uzmanları ve program geliştiriciler tarafından, sihirli bir kavram olarak birçok ülkenin öğretim programının merkezinde yer almaktadır. Bu çalışmada bilimsel okur-yazar bireylerin yetiştirilmesi hedeflerinden birisi olan; fen lisesi, anadolu lisesi ve genel lise öğrencilerinin, bilimin doğası hakkındaki bakış açıları karşılaştırılmıştır. Çalışmaya 11. sınıfta okuyan 117 öğrenci katılmıştır. Üç okulun üniversite giriş sınavı başarılarında önemli farklılıklar bulunmasına rağmen, bilimin doğası hakkındaki bakış açıları arasında önemli bir farklılık olmadığı görülmüştür. Sonuçlar; üç okulun öğrencilerinde de; bilimsel bilginin deneyselliği, veri ve kanıt, teori ve kanun, bilimsel düşünce ve bilimsel bilgi konularında yetersiz bakış açısına sahip oldukları ve bu konularda bazı kavram yanılgılarının bulunduğu tespit edilmiştir.
