This study examines the development of radio broadcasting in Turkey that started in late, 1920s, untii the establishment of private radio stations in the 1990s. The first part covers the radio broadcasting experiences between 1926 and 1936, which is called the TTTAŞ (The Turkish Wireless Telephone Company) Era. The following parts provides information about the developments between 1936 and 1990 when the state took the full control over the radio broadcasting. PTT (Post, Telephone and Telegraph Administration), The Directorate General of Press and Tourism and TRT (Turkish Radio and Television Corporation) eras are examined in order, covering technical developments, broadcasting quality and radio audience research as well. The state owned radio stations (other than the TRT radios) and the beginning of private radio broadcasting are examined İn the last sections.
