Abstract (2. Language):
There are internal and external sources of motivation that shape behavior. Internal and external sources of motivation have been widely studied, and the distinction between them has shed important light on both developmental and educational practices. These sources have an effect on the learning process and academic success. The structure of relationships between the sources of motivation and academic success may vary according to the learning stages. To some degree external or to some degree internal sources are becoming more functional. The study examines the relations between internal-external motivation sources of college students toward learning. This cross-sectional study was conducted on 522 students; 214 female (41.0%), and 308 male (59.0%). Data were collected through a questionnaire and were analyzed with Chi Square statistics. The results show that there are significant correlation between internal motivation sources such as taking pleasure in learning, believing that subjects are useful, learning curiosity, knowledge, meeting the learning needs, being interested in learning and academic success. It was foundout that there was no significant relationship between the academic success and the sources of external motivation. In the classroom, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation can and do coexist. But these results show that internal sources have more effect on the overall academic achievement of the university students.
