Hypotermia is common in patient undergoing surgery with epidural anesthesia. Although surgical factors contribute to intraoperative hypotermia (exposure, fluid replacement), hypotermia and shivering result from the physologic effects of epidural anesthesia alone. Our study, 55 females patients (22-45 yr) who developed shivering after epidural anaesthesia, were began study. Ambient temperature were maintained at 22±0,5°C. I mg.kg'1 tramadol was given intravenously to patient and hart rate, respiratory rate,bloodpressure and body temperature were recorded. Shivering stopped after the administration of tramadol in all patient in 40 sec-4 min. There were 4 patients who had reccurence of shivering after 10-45 min. Same dose of tramadol was given and within 1-2 min the shivering disappeared. There were no differance in APGAR scores among the drug was given before delivery and after delivery. There were a few side effects but not require any medical treatment.

Epidural anestezi ile cerrahiye alınan hastalarda titreme oldukça sık görülür. Sıvı replasmanı, hastadan ısı kaybının fazlalığı gibi cerrahi faktörler hipotermiyi artıracağı gibi, epidural anestezi tek başına fizyolojik etkilerine bağlı olarak hipotermi ve titreme ile sonuçlanabilir. Çalışmamızda yaşları 22-45 arasında değişen epidural anestezi ile sezaryen operasyonuna alınıp titreme gelişen 55 gebede çalışma başlatıldı. Çalışmanın yapılacağı çevre ısısı 22±0,5 olarak ayarlandı. Titreme gelişen bu hastalara 1 mg.kg' tramadol verildi ve kalp hızı, solunum hızı, kan basıncı ve vücut ısısı kaydedildi. Tramadol verildikten sonra hastaların tümünde titreme 40 sn - 4 dk arasında durdu. 4 hastada 10 -45.dakikalar arasında titreme yineledi. Bu hastalara aynı doz tramadol verildiğinde titreme 1-2 dk içinde durdu. Bebek doğmadan önce ve sonra tramadol verilen hastaların bebekleri arasında APGAR skorları açısından fark gözlenmedi. Tramadol sonrasında önemsiz oranda yan etki gözlendi fakat tedavi gerektirmedi.
