TİCARET AKIMLARINDA HİSTEREZİS ETKİLERİ: TÜRKİYE ÖRNEĞİ

Abstract (2. Language):
The hysteresis effect of exchange rate changes on trade flows is a controversial issue in empirical literature. Although most- of the studies find evidence for the validity of hysteresis hypothesis, some studies suggest otherwise. Using Parsley and Wei's the 'asymmetric hypothesis' and the 'option-value hypothesis' methodologies, this study tests the hysteresis hypothesis for Turkey over the period 1994:1- 2001:12. The results show that not only cumulative exchange rate changes affect Turkey's import volume, but also exchange rate volatility does not cause any structural change in the import volume. The findings from both methodologies imply that there is no hysteresis effect in the import volume of Turkey for the given period.
