Abstract (2. Language):
Technology is a very powerful tool that provides many opportunities for distance education. Today, many distance education instructors incorporate technology into their traditional classrooms. The most well-known technology is computers. However, computers do not overcome many barriers which arise between the students and instructor on its own, because teaching mathematics requires a great deal of visualization in order to acquire a deeper insight into the fundamental elements and underlying principles of fields. The graphic tablet has potential to allow new and faster delivery and better communication opportunities for mathematic teaching. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to obtain the views of students and faculty members towards using graphic tablets in mathematics course in distance education. For this purpose a questionnaire developed and semi-structured interviews were used for the study. A total of 221 students, whose ages range from 18 to 40 years participated in this study. A total of four faculty members from Gazi University who are experienced in using graphic tablet for distance education and have been using tablet for a long time were participated in this study. The analysis of the questionnaire was conducted by using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS 16). Students and faculty members' comments were analyzed content analysis technique. Depending on the findings, students have quite positive views towards using graphic tablet which is actually designed as a drawing tool for graphic designers. Students and faculty members thinks that graphic tablets can be a solution for the problems such as providing motivation and following the lecture step by step in distance education.
