The increase in the number of earners of hepatitis and acquired immuno deficiency syndrome (AIDS) viruses has caused alarm for many dentists and dental personel. Effective sterilizing techniques are therefore needed for instruments, prostheses and impressions. Difficulties in sterilizing impression materials have led to chemical disinfection as an alternative. In this study, effect of three different disinfectants were evaluated on the dimensional stability of silicon and irrversible hydrocolloid impression materials. Evaluation of the effect of a 30 min. Immersion irreversible hydorcolloid, light and medium body silicone in selected broad-spectrum disinfectants disclosed minimal changes in the resultant casts as evaluated under the large Toolmaker's Microscope in micron. It is concluded there fore, that immersion disinfection of dental impressions does not effect adversely the resultant casts in regard to construction of dental prostheses. But the best results got from the 2% -sodium hypochlorite.

Hepatit ve AIDS virüs ü taşıyıcılarının son yıllarda artması, dişhekimleri vc yardımcı personel için kullanılan aletlerin, ölçü materyallerinin vc protezlerin etkili sterilizasyonunu gerektirmektedir. Ölçü materyallerinin sterilizasyonundaki zorluklar kimyasal dezenfektanların kullanılmasın] gündeme getirmiştir- Çalışmamızda 3 farklı dezenfektan maddenin silikon ve irreversible hidrokoiloid ölçü materyallerinin boyutsal stabilitesine etkisi incelendi. Irreversible hidrokoiloid, akışkan ve orta kıvam silikonların 30 dakika dezenfektanlarda bekletilme süresi sonunda modellerde oluşan minimal linear değişiklikler, Large Toolmaker's Mikroskop ile mikron düzeyinde incelendi. Kimyasal dezenfektanların kullanılan ölçü materyallerinde klinik olarak kabul edilebilir distorsiyonlara neden olduğu gözlendi. Ancak % 2'lik sodyum hipokloril solüsyonunda boyutsal stabiliteniiı en az değişiklik gösterdiği bulundu
