kente myeloid leukemia developing after astroeytoma; a case report. Radiation used for me-dical puıposes such as exposure during diagnostic radiology, radiotherapy for benign and ma-lignant diseases, and investigation with radionuclides have been associated with leukemia. It is well established that drugs, particularly alkylating agents and topoisomerase II inhibitors have been linked to acute myeloid leukemia. Compared to chemotherapy exposure to radiotherapy has been assumed to be less leukemogenic than chemotherapy. The risk of leukemia inereases when radiotherapy and chemotherapy were combined applied. We report here a patient with astroeytoma who developed acute myeloid leukemia after three years following radiotherapy

Tıbbi amaçlı kullanılan radyasyonun lökomojenik etkisi olduğu tanı amaçlı radyasyon, benign ya da malign hastalıkların tedavisinde radyoterapi ya da radyonüklidlere maruz kalma sonrası bildirilen lösemi olguları ile gündeme gelmiştir. Antineoplastik ajanlar, özellikle alkile edici ajanlar ve topoizomeraz II inhibitörleri ile sekonder lösemi gelişmesi arasında da ilişki netleşmiştir. Bu durumda lökomojenik etki açısından karşılaştırıldığında radyoterapinin kemoterapi-ye göre daha az lökomojenik olduğu söylenebilir. Radyoterapi kemoterapi ile birlikte verildiğinde lökomojenik etki fazlalaşmaktadır. Burada düşük dereceli astrositom tanısı alan, tümörün cerrahi olarak çıkarılmasını izleyerek ilgili alana radyoterapiyi takiben 3 yıl içerisinde akut miyeloid lösemi gelişen bir olgu sunuldu.
