ANTIMICROBIAL EFFECT OF. A NEW ALGINATE MATERIAL IMPREGNATED WITH DISINFECTANT AND PREVENTING CROSS-CONTAMINATION ON GYPSUM CASTS

The effectiveness of antimicrobial properties of a new alginate impression material impregnated with a disinfectant compound, didecyldimethyl ammonium chloride İs investigated in vitro by using agar disc diffusion technique. A study is also made in order to investigate the effectiveness of preventing cross-contamination on gypsum casts. The microorganisms used were S.mutans, B. subtUis S.aureus, L.caseİ, P.aeruginosa, S.marcescens and c.albicans. The microorganisms used in this investigation were in the concentration of 10™, 10" and 10». The highest con centration of microoganisms showed narrower inhibition zones than the other concentrations which showed the same inhibition zones. S. mutans was the most sensitive microorganism tested, followed by res pectivelu c.albicans, B.subtilis, L.caseİ, S.aureus, S. marcescens and P.aeruginosa. It is also found that test alginate is effective in preventing cross contamination according to control alginate İn the same concentrations of microorganisms in our technique in vitro.

Bu çalışmada, dezenfektan bir madde olarak, didecyldimethylh ammonium chloride içeren yeni bir aljinatm anümikrobiyal etkisi in vitro olarak jeIoz<Iisk difüzyon tekniğjne göre incelenmiş ve aynca alçı modellerde çapraz bulaşmayı Önlemedeki rolü yönünden değerlendirilmiştir. Bu amaçla kullanılan mikroorganizmalar Streptocoss-cus mutans, Staphylococcus aureus, Lactobacillus casei, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Bacillus suböliş, Serratia marcescens Ve Candida albicans'dır. Bu mikroorganizmalar. 10'M0»> ve İO yoğunluklarda kullanılmıştır. Mikroorganizmaları en yüksek yoğunlukta, birbirinin aynı inhibisyon zonları veren diğer yoğunluklara göre daha dar in-hibisyon zonları oluşturmuşlardır. Aljinatm en etkili olduğu mikroorganizma S. mutans olup bunu sırasıyla C.albicans, B.subtilis, L.caseİ, S.aureus, S.marcescens ve P.aeruginosa izlemiştir. In vitro oluşturduğumuz çapraz bulaşma yöntemimizde de test aljinatı kontrol aljinatma göre aynı yoğunlukta denenen tüm mikroorganizmalara karşı antimikrobiyal etkinlik gösterdiği ve çapraz bulaşmayı önlemede bir rolü olduğu saptanmıştır.
