information architecture is a phrase that has been around for some time, but usually in the context of information technology. However, it has recently gained credibility in the softer area of information systems design, particularlywith regard to the "findability" ofunstructured, mainly textual, information, This paper reviews what is meant by the phrase, and emphasises the interdisciplinary nature of the approach which should address different layers of modelling and design, from the technology platform to the user interface, as well as cover the whole information life cycle from generation to delivery and use.

Enformasyon mimarisi, bir süredir dillerde dolaşan ve genellikle enformasyon teknolojisi kapsamında algılanan bir deyimdir. Ancak, enformasyon mimarisi yakın zamanlarda enformasyon sistemleri tasarımı alanında ve özellikle yapılandırılmamış çoklukla metne bağlı enformasyon bulunabilirliğine ilişkin bir anlam kazanmıştır. Bu makale, deyimin anlamını açıklamaktadır. Öte yandan teknoloji seviyesinden kullanıcı arabirimine değin ve aynı zamanda bilgi yaşam döngüsünün oluşturulmasından gönderim ve kullanıma kadarsöz konusu yaklaşımın, farklı modelleme ve tasarım katmanlarına işaret eden disiplinlerarası içeriğini vurgulamaktadır.
