This study aimed to evaluate the level of prejudice against obesity in school of health students. This descriptive and analytical study was performed with undergraduate students studying at the Sakarya University Health High School. Study universe included all students (1023 students) who enrolled in courses, while the sample consisted of 425 students who agreed to participate in the study between March and April of the year 2016. Data was collected using an information form prepared by the researchers and the GAMS 27-Obesity Prejudice Scale (OPS). Data was computerized. Mean age was 20,80±1,74. Among the students, 86,6% were female, 72,7% were nursing and 27,3% were midwifery students, and 27,3% were in second year. The majority of students (84,2%) had a medium income level, while 28,9% stayed at private dormitories and 81,2% had a nuclear family. Mean body mass index (BMI) was found to be 21,71±2,99 and it was determined that 12,7% of the students were overweight/obese. Mean obesity prejudice score was 78,55±10,20. It was found that 51,3% of the students had an inclination toward prejudice, while 23,5% were prejudiced. Midwifery students had significantly higher prejudice scores than nursing students, while students who had a overweight/obese friend also had significantly higher scores compared to those who do not have obese friends (p<0,05). It was found that 74,8% of Health High School students were prejudiced and that department of study and having overweight/obese friends were associated with prejudice against obesity.

Bu çalışma, Sağlık Yüksekokulu’nda eğitim alan öğrencilerin obezite ön yargı düzeylerini değerlendirmek amacıyla yapıldı. Sakarya Üniversitesi Sağlık Yüksekokulu’nda öğrenim gören lisans öğrencilerinde tanımlayıcı ve analitik olarak planlanan çalışmanın evrenini Sağlık Yüksekokulunda kayıtlı, derslere devam eden tüm öğrenciler (1023 öğrenci) örneklemini ise Mart-Nisan 2016 tarihleri arasında, çalışmaya katılmayı kabul eden 425 öğrenci oluşturdu. Veriler, araştırmacı tarafından oluşturulan bilgi formu ve GAMS 27-Obezite Önyargı Ölçeği (OÖÖ) ile toplandı. Veriler bilgisayar ortamında değerlendirildi. Yaş ortalaması 20,80±1,74 olan öğrencilerin %86,6’sının kadın, %72,7’sinin hemşirelik, %27,3’ünün ebelik öğrencisi olduğu, %27,3’ünün ikinci sınıfta eğitim gördüğü belirlendi. Öğrencilerin büyük çoğunluğunun (%84,2) gelir seviyesinin orta düzeyde olduğu, %28,9’unun özel yurtta kaldığı, %81,2’sinin çekirdek aile yapısına sahip olduğu saptandı. Öğrencilerin beden kitle indeksleri (BKİ) ortalaması 21,71±2,99 olup, %12,7’sinin fazla kilolu/obez olduğu saptandı. Öğrencilerin obezite ön yargı ölçek puan ortalaması 78,55±10,20 olup %51,3’ü önyargıya eğilimli, %23,5’inin önyargılı oldukları saptandı. Ebelik bölümünde okuyan öğrencilerin hemşirelik bölümünde okuyanlara göre, yakın arkadaşında fazla kilolu/obez birey olanların, olmayanlara göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı düzeyde ölçekten daha yüksek puan aldığı dolayısıyla obez bireylere karşı daha fazla ön yargıya eğilimli olduğu saptandı (p<0,05). Çalışmada Sağlık Yüksekokulu öğrencilerinin %74,8’inin önyargılı ve ön yargıya eğilimli olduğu, okunulan bölümün ve arkadaşları arasında fazla kilolu/obez olma durumunun obezite ön yargı düzeylerini etkilediği görüldü.
