In the process of KM, leadership can be defined as a process in which the other members of the group are supported in learning processes which are necessary for accomplishing group goals or organizational objectives. In this process, the principal task of the leader is to benefit from knowledge through mobilizing knowledge assets of the organization. In this study, the role and importance of leadership in KM are exposed while explaining the tools, methods, and behaviors to be employed in order to be successful in KM.

Bilgi yönetimi sürecinde liderlik, grup amaçlarını veya organizasyonel hedefleri başarmak için gereksinim duyulan öğrenme süreçlerinde, diğer grup üyelerinin desteklendiği bir süreç olarak tanımlanabilir. Bu süreç içerisinde liderin öncelikli görevi, organizasyonun bilgi varlıklarını harekete geçirerek bilgiden yarar sağlayabilmektir. Bu çalışmada, bilgi yönetiminde liderliğin rolü ve önemi ortaya konulmakta, bilgi yönetiminin başarısı için, liderlerin kullanabilecekleri araçlar, yöntemler ve davranışların neler olduğu açıklanmaya çalışılmaktadır.
