The literature widely acknowledges the significant contribution of entrepreneurship activities into economic growth and employment. Every practice is based on a theory. Entrepreneurship has evolved within the historical progress by taking the economics and society as its basis and improved its theory. In this progress, different approaches of various scholars in economics towards economic issues of the period were quite effective.Improvement of the theory of entrepreneurship that has been discussed since the rise of classical approach, taking various scholars’ different ideas on this issue into consideration and their evaluation bear importance since it would contribute greatly to the entrepreneurship theory. This study aims to put forward the entrepreneurship theory based on periods and attempt to explain how it reached the level of today’s entrepreneurship that is basically employment creation and obtaining economic growth

Girişimcilik faaliyetlerinin ekonomik büyümeye önemli katkı sağladığı; literatürde genel kabul görmüş bir olgudur. Her uygulama temel bir teoriye dayanmaktadır. Girişimcilik; iktisat bilimi ve toplumu temel dayanak noktası alan bir yaklaşım ile tarihsel süreçte değişime uğramış ve teorisini geliştirmiştir. Şüphesiz bu gelişimde; dönemler itibariyle iktisat teorisyenlerinin dönemin iktisadi olgularına farklı bakış açıları önemli derecede etkili olmuştur. Klasik iktisadi düşüncenin ortaya çıkışından itibaren tartışılmaya başlanan girişimcilik teorisinin gelişiminin; süreçte iktisat teorisyenlerinin farklı bakış açılarının göz önünde bulundurulması ve günümüz girişimcilik anlayışında tekrar değerlendirilmesinin, girişimcilik teorisine katkı yapacağı düşünülmektedir. Bu çalışma; girişimcilik teorisini dönemler itibariyle ortaya koyarak, günümüzde girişimciliğin istihdam yaratma ve ekonomik büyümeye sağladığı katkı yönündeki anlayışa nasıl ulaştığını vurgulamaya çalışmaktadır.
