Objectives: This study was planned to investigate the relationship between Hoffmann reflex (H-reflex) and nonverbal intelligence in volenteer university students ranging in age from 18 to 21 years. Material and methods: All were healty, devoid of neurological or psychiatric signs and symptoms. Nonverbal intelligence (IQ) was determined by the Cattell's Culture Fair Intelligence Test. The recordings were made from the gastrocnemius-soleus muscles of both legs. Results: The mean values were found to be 2.82 ± 3.21 mV, 27.83 ± 2.34 ms, 82.14 ± 34.67 pVs and 3.21 ± 3.76 mV, 28.24 ± 2.15 ms, 80.96 ±27.99 y.Vs and 99.50 ± 8.04 for right H-reflex amplitude, latency, area and left H-reflex amplitude, latency, area and IQ, respectively. Conclusion: These results showed that there was no significant relationship between H-reflex and non verbal intelligence.

Amaç: Bu çalışma 18-21 yaşları arasındaki kişilerde Hoffmann refleksi (H-refleks) ile nonverbal zekanın arasındaki ilgiyi araştırmak amacı ile yapıldı. Materyal ve Metot: Çalışmaya isteyerek katılan, psikiyatrik ve nörolojik şikayeti olmayan, sağlıklı üniversite öğrencilerinde zeka (IQ) ölçümü Cattell's zeka testi ile yapıldı. H-refleks her iki bacaktan kaydedildi. Tibial sinir uyarı/arak gastroknemius-soleus kasları üzerinden 10 tane arka arkaya alınan kaydın ortalaması kaydedildi. Değerler ortalamatSS olarak ifade edilmiştir. Bulgular: Sağ H-refleks amplitüdü 2.82 ± 3.21 mV, latensi 27.83 ± 2.34 ms ve alanı 82.14 ± 34.67 nVs; sol H-refleks amplitüdü 3.21 ± 3.76 mV, latensi 28.24 ± 2.15 ms ve alanı 80.96 ± 27.99pVs bulundu. IQ ortalaması 99.50± 8.04idi. Sonuç: Araştırmamızda IQ ile H-refleks arasında bir ilişkinin bulunmadığı saptandı.
