An overdenture is a complete or removable partial denture supported by retained teeth or roots that may or not require preparation. These restorations also increase the vertical dimension which has been lost and so help to improve the facial contour as well as esthetics of the individual. Congenital defects such as cleft palate, oligodontia, cleidocranial dysostosis and class 11. malocclusions are good indications for the use of overdentures. Overlay Dentures, are dedicated as prosthodontic restorations which are applied to extend maxillary arch horizontally in the cases of maxillary collaps.

Süperpozisyon apareyleri, prepare edilerek veya edilmeden ağızda bırakılan destek dişler ya da kökler üzerine uygulanan total veya haraketlİ parsiyel protezlerdir. Bu tür protezler; dikey boyutun azaldığı durumlarda arttırılmasına ve fasial kontumu mümkün olduğunca düzeltilerek estetiğin teminine yardımcı olurlar. Yarık damak, oligodontia, cleidocranial dysostosis gibi konjenital defektler ve III. sınıf maloklüzyonlar overdenture protezler için iyi birer endikasyon oluştururlar. Overlay protezler, maksiller daralma vakalarında maksiller arkı horizontal yönde genişleterek uygulanan prostodontik restorasyonlardır.
