Abstract (2. Language):
This study aims to determine how the students who are in the eight grade of primary
school perceive the concept democracy which takes place in the curriculum of Social
Studies education and what are the things effective on their present perceptions about
these concepts.
In order to detect students’ perceptions related to democracy, a questionnaire has been
prepared. This study has been applied to 464 eighth year students from twelve primary
schools in Ankara in 2001-2002 Spring Semester.The results showed that student’s perceptions of some subjects like equality, political
party, liberty and national sovereignty are wrong. Parents’ education seems to be the
most effective factor on student’s perceptions of democracy.

Bu çalışma İlköğretim 8. sınıf kademesindeki öğrencilerin Sosyal Bilgiler dersi
müfredatıiçerisinde yer alan demokrasi ile ilgili kavramlarınasıl algıladıklarıve bu
kavramlarla ilgili mevcut algılamalarında nelerin etkili olduğunu belirlemeyi
amaçlamaktır.
Öğrencilerin demokrasi algılarınıtespit için anket uygulanmıştır. Ankara ilindeki 12
okuldan toplam 464, 8. sınıf öğrencisi çalışma kapsamıiçerisinde yer almaktadır.
Öğrencilerin demokrasi kavramıiçerisinde eşitlik, siyasi partiler, özgürlük ve milli
egemenlik ile ilgili bazıkonularıyanlışalgıladıklarıbulunmuştur. Öğrencilerin
demokrasi algılarınıen çok etkileyen faktör ise anne ve babanın eğitim düzeyidir.
