Abstract (2. Language):
One of the antibacterial factor of saliva is the peroxidase enzyme. In this research, plaque accumulation and peroxidase activity were estimated of children aged 10-15 years who had a high prevalence of gingivitis which was emphasized in literature. It was found that approximal plaque index (API) was 55.78 ±24.2 %, sulcus bleeding index (SBI) was 21.78 ± 16.5% and salivary peroxidase activity was 0.327 i 0.09 IU/ml in tlıe experimental group. TJiesevalu-es were detected respectively as 10.67 ± 3.98%, 0%, and 0.12 ± 0.032 IU in tlıe control group. Statistically, significant differences were detected betweei SBI (0.001<p<0.01), API, salivary peroxidase activity (p<0.001) and control group. It was concluded that the estimation of salivary peroxidase activity might be a laboratory marker for periodontal disease.
