EFFECT OF POLISHING PROCEDURES ON SURFACE CHARACTERISTICS OF TOOTH-COLORED RESTORATIVES

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of polishing procedures on the roughness of tooth-colored restorative materials. 80 discs (10 mm x 2 mm) were fabricated by using Prodigy (Kerr), Vitremer (3M), Dyract (Dentsply, DeTrey) and Ketac-Silver (ESPE). The surfaces of the samples were prepared as follows: Group 1, polished with 16- blade tungsten carbide bur (Comet); Group 2, polished with abrasive discs (Hawe-Neos); Group 3, application of different bonding agents and a varnish [ Ketac-Silver / Varnish (ESPE) , Vitremer / Finishing Gloss (3M), Dyract / Prime&Bond 2.1 (Dentsply, DeTrey) , Prodigy / OptiGuard (Kerr) J. Surfaces of materials cured against a Mylar strip were used as the control group. The specimens were stored in distilled water at 37° C for a week prior to surface roughness (Ra) evaluation, which was carried out by using Surftest.402 Analyzer (Mitutoyo). Data were subjected to one-way ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis test. The control groups of Prodigy (0.06 ± 0.01 Ra) and Ketac-Silver (0.08 ± 0.02 Ra) demonstrated the lowest Ra values when compared to all other groups (p < 0.05). For Vitremer, significantly smoother surfaces (0.17± 0.03 Ra) were obtained in group 3 (p < 0.05). No statistically significant difference in surface roughness was detected between the polishing procedures both in Dyract and Prodigy.

Bu çalışmada, diş rengindeki restoratif materyallerde, farklı cila işlemleri sonrasında yüzey pürüzlülükleri karşılaştırmalı olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Cam iyonomer simam (Ketac-Silver, ESPE), reçine ile modifıye edilmiş cam iyonomer (Vitremer, 3M), poliasit ile modifıye edilmiş kompozit reçine (Dyract, Dentsply, DeTrey) ve hibrid kompozit reçine (Prodigy, Kerr) ile 10 mm çapında ve 2 mm kalınlığında 80 adet disk hazırlanmıştır. Selüloid bant altında elde edilen yüzeyler kontrol grubu olarak ayrılırken, diğer yüzeyler 1. Grupta 16 bıçaklı tungsten karbit frezle, 2.Grupta abrasif disklerle (Hawe-Neos) cilalanmıştır. 3. Grupta ise Ketac-Silver yüzeyine vernik, Vitremer yüzeyine Finishing Gloss, Dyract yüzeyine Prime&Bond 2.1 ve Prodigy yüzeyine OptiGuard uygulanmıştır. 37° C'deki distile suda 1 hafta bekletilen örneklerin yüzey pürüzlülükleri Surftest 402 Analyzer ile ölçülmüştür. Veriler tek yönlü ANOVA ve Kruskall- Wallis testleri ile istatistiksel olarak değerlendirilmiştir. En pürüzsüz yüzeyler Prodigy (0.06 ± 0.01 Ra) ve Ketac-Silver'da (0.08 ± 0.02 Ra) şeffaf bant altında elde edilmiştir. Vwemer de ise bonding uygulanan grup (0.17± 0.03 Ra) diğer cila tekniklerine göre anlamlı derecede .pürüzsüz bir yüzey göstermiştir (p < 0.05). Dyract ve Prodigy 'de cila teknikleri arasında anlamlı bir farka rastlanmamıştır.
