Abstract (2. Language):
In this research, It is studied to what extend letter knowledge and phonological awareness before acquisition of reading predict reading fluency after acquisition of reading. The study was conducted on 107 first graders. Letter knowledge and phonological awareness were measured at the beginning of the year, and reading fluency was measured at the end of the year. Findings show both letter knowledge and phonological awareness affect reading fluency at the end of the year. Children who can recognize and name letters and aware of phonemes reads more fluently than the children who fail in these tasks or succeed in only one of them.
