SEM STUDY OF MICROMORPHOLOGICAL EFFECT OF APF AND NEUTRAL NaF GEL ON GLASS IONOMER CEMENT

This SEM study evaluated the micromorphological effect oj a 1,23 % acidulated phosphate fluoride gel (Johnson ana Johnson) and a neutral 2 % sodium fluoride (Fluocal gel, Septodont) on the surface of a glass ionomer cement (Che-lon-Fil, Espe) with or without a protective surface glazing. Glass ionomer cylinders (area 9 mm) were prepared and divided into six groups of 5 specimens each: Group I: No Glaze; Group 2: Glaze, Group 3: No Glaze±APFfor 4 minutes; Group 4: Glazes APF for 4 minutes; Group 5: No Glaze + Neutralfluoride for 4 minutes; Group 6 Glazes Neutral fluoride for 4 minutes. Tlie glass ionomer was handled according to manifacturer's instructions. The glass resin (Re-tac-Gktze) was applicated with a brush over the glass ionomer surface and aired with visible light for 30 second. Tfie fluoride gels were left in contact with the surface for 4 minutes. All the specimens were evaluated under the SEM. The results indicated that the APF gel etches the glass ionomer suiface considerably ano that the glaze protects the glass ionomer from the APF gel. Tlte neutralfluoride gel had no significant effect on the glass ionomer surface with or without the glaze application. Therefore glass ionomer restorations should be protected especially before applying the APF gel, or a neutral fluoride gel should be used.

Bu SEM çalışmasında, glaze uygulanmış veya glaze uygulanmamış cam iyonomer siman yüzeyinde % 1,23'lük APF'nin (Asitlendirilmiş Fosfat Fluorid jel, Johnson and Johnson) ve % 2'lik NaF'nin (Nötral Sodyum Fluorid jel, Fluocal Gel, Septodont) morfolojik etkileri incelenmiştir. Cam iyonomer simandan 9mm çapında silindir şeklinde örnekler hazırlanarak, herbi-ri 5 örnekten oluşan 6 grup oluşturulmuştur: 1. grup glaze uygulanmamış; 2. grup glaze uygulanmış; 3. grup glaze uygulanmamış-APF; 4. grup glaze uygulanmış-APF; 5. grup glaze uygulanmamış-NaF; 6. grup glaze uygulanmış-NaF.
Cam iyonomer üretici firmanın önerileri doğrultusunda hazırlanmıştır. Glaze, bir fırça yardımıyla cam iyonomer yüzeyine sürülmüş ve görünür ışıkla 30 sn. süreyle polimerize edilmiştir. Fluorid Jel 4 dak. süreyle cam iyonomer yüzeylere uygulanmıştır. Bütün örnekler SEM'de değerlendirilmiştir. APF jelinin cam iyonomer dolgu yüzeyini asitlendirdiği ve glaze uygulamasının cam iyonomer dolgu yüzeyini APF'nin kötü etkilerinden koruduğu gözlenmiştir. Nötral fluorid jelin glaze uygulanmış veya uygulanmamış örneklerde istenmeyen bir etkisini olmadığı görülmüştür. Bu nedenle, cam iyonomer restorasyonlar özellikle APF jel uygulaması öncesi korunmalı veya nötral fluorid jel uygulanmalıdır.
