Abstract (2. Language):
Purpose: Finishing and polishing are important factors related to the clinical longevity of restorations. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of various finishing/polishing procedures on the surface roughness of three different resin materials. Material and Methods: By using teflon molds (8 mm. diameter and 5 mm. height), 54 disc specimen were prepared from three materials used for esthetic restoration; hybrid composite resin(Va/ux Pius), packable composite restn(Alert), and ormocer (Admira). Eighteen specimens of each materia/ were prepared and randomyy divided into three groups. (n=6) Different kinds of finishing/polishing procedures (diamond finishing burs, Sof-Lex discs, Astropol system) were appltcated to each group. Average surface roughness values (Ra) were measured with Mttutoyo Surfcorder / SE-40D proftlometry on each specimen's surface and the results were statistically evaluated by using two-way ANOVA and Duncan test. Results and Conclusion: A significant difference (P <0.05) was found among the mean Ra of 3 finishing/ polishing systems. The Duncan's tests revealed that the mean Ra for Sof-Lex (1,832) was statisticaly significantly different from Astropol (2,058) finishing system and diamond finishing burs (2,243). However, there are no significantly differences among the restorative materials and interactions between restorative materials and finishing systems. The smoothest surface was obtained with Admira resin material finished with Sof-Lex discs. (1.506)
